How to Change a Printer from Offline to Online in Brother

Once you have added either a USB or networked printer to your PC or Mac computer, you can begin sending documents to print. However, on occasion, a print command will create an error on the printer and take it offline, which will prevent all future jobs from printing. To resolve this issue, you will need to change your printer settings from offline to online. \

Instructions

1.     PC Instructions

Open the Start menu and click on the "Devices and Printers" icon. This will open a window with a list of the printers currently set up on your computer.

Double-click on the icon of the printer you want to change to online. The status of the printer will be shown as either "Printer: Ready" or "Printer: Offline."

Click on "Printer: Offline" and the Printer menu will appear. Click on "Printer" in the menu bar and uncheck "Use Printer Offline." This action will change the printer from offline to online.

2.     Mac Instructions

Open System Preferences by clicking on the icon in the Dock.

Go to the Print & Fax control panel under the Hardware category.

Select the printer you want to take online from the list on the left side of the screen. Then click on the "Open Print Queue" button.

Click on the "Resume Printer" button at the top of the queue window to change the printer from offline to online.

How to Troubleshoot a Brother MFC- 665CW Printer

The MFC-665CW is a photo color all-in-one printer developed and marketed by Brother. The printer
also comes with wireless networking. Some problems MFC-665CW users encounter include error codes,
paper jams, networking issues and low quality printing. Brother offers a wide range of troubleshooting
techniques to resolve such problems. Use some techniques to solve general issues, while others target
specific components of the printer.

Solution

Restart your Brother printer to get rid of standby error messages on the LCD
screen. Unplug the printer and wait for at least 30 seconds before plugging it back
on. Sometimes a simple restart can resolve error messages on the printer.

Clear "Machine Error 46" by replacing the existing ink cartridges with new ones.
Brother recommends you use their brand as opposed to third-party ink catridges.

The MFC-665CW uses the "LC51BK," "LC51C," "LC51M" and "LC51Y"
ink cartridges. The cartridge installation instructions are provided inside the
packaging.

Troubleshoot paper jam and clear the message "No Paper Fed" from the LCD
screen. Turn the printer around and remove the "Jam Clear Cover" on the back
side. Look for any paper scraps or jammed paper in the rear of the unit. Pull out
the jammed paper gently from the the feed roller. Do not touch the feed roller.

Clear the "Out of Memory" message while scanning a document to be copied or
faxed. Press the "Menu" key on the printer panel. Press the up/down arrow button
to locate "Fax." Push "OK." Press the up/down arrow button to locate "Advanced
Fax Operation." Push "OK." Press the up/down arrow button to locate "Print Fax"
or "Print Document." Push "OK." Push the "Black(Mono) Start" button. Push
the "Stop/Exit" button once the printer finishes the printing task.

Troubleshoot the message "No devices could be found over the network."
Insert the Brother MFL-Pro Suite installation disc and wait till the installation
wizard appears on screen. Select "Network Connection" for the connection type.
Click "Next." When prompted to retry to search for the device again, click "No."
Select "Specify your machine by address (Advanced Users)." Type the IP
address of your Brother machine. Refer to your user guide to find the IP address.
Click "Next." Follow on-screen guided prompts to complete the installation.

How to Troubleshoot the Brother HL 2140 Compact Laser Printer

the Brother HL 2140 may experience problems with its operation, causing it to stop operating or to produce less-than-satisfactory printouts. Rather than immediately taking the printer to a repair shop, troubleshoot the problems yourself. If paper jams inside the printer, the machine will cease operating and possibly display an error message alerting you to the problem. With paper skew, you will simply notice the text or images printed by the HL 2140 are crooked on the page. You
can save yourself lost work time and money on a repair bill if you resolve common problems at your home or office.

Instructions

  1. Paper Jams

Open the printer’s front door. Pull the toner cartridge toward you and out of the printer.
Remove any stuck paper in the machine or the toner cartridge by pulling gently on it. Pulling the paper too hard can damage the printer’s rollers.

Close the printer’s front door and pull out the printer’s paper tray, removing it completely from the machine. Remove any stuck paper by pulling it down and out of the printer.
Open the printer’s back door by pulling down on the top. Pull the large plastic tab inside the printer toward you.
Remove any stuck paper by pulling on it gently, then close the back door. Push the green tab on the toner cartridge assembly to remove the toner cartridge. Remove any paper stuck inside.
Reinsert the toner cartridge in the assembly until it clicks into place. Replace the toner cartridge assembly and the paper tray, then close the printer’s front door.
  1. Paper Skew

Open the printer’s paper tray. Adjust the paper guides so they are against the paper’s margins, but not bowing the paper. Adjust the paper guides in the automatic document feeder if you are scanning or making copies.
Check the package of paper you are using in the printer. Discontinue using the paper if it is not labeled for use with laser printers.
Click on “Start” on your computer’s toolbar, then “Control Panel” and “Printers and Faxes.” Right-click on the icon for the HL 2140 and click on “Printer Preferences.”
